STEM Moon Shot 2018

Summary

STEM Moon Shot is an engaging and creative event designed for kids of all ages to become excited about Science Technology Engineering and Math (STEM) using a central theme of LEGO and space exploration. The main activity focuses on the building of an 11.5ft LEGO Saturn V Rocket designed by Scott Bowman.

Part 1 took place on Saturday 3rd Feb 2018 in the Student Union Building at Boise State University. From there the rocket was moved to Boise Main Library where the 2nd half of the rocket was completed on the 12th – 13th May 2018.

Over 750 young people attended the events where a multitude of activities took place including Design within Constraints using LEGO, LEGO Free Build, Mosaic Building and the Saturn V Rocket Build. The Idaho LEGO Users Group (ILUG) also displayed a selection of Spaceflight related MOCs (My Own Creations) and the Great Ball Contraption also made an appearance.

Each young person who took part in the event also went home with their own 14″ Micro Saturn V Rocket complete with custom stickers!
